Argh, today’s comic was hard to write!
It’s because I know exposition is boring. If you have fascinating characters, a great plot, and some clever dialogue, you can navigate your exposition with no problem. All you have to do is take the time to think about it and put it together.
But every time I thought about thinking about it, I procrastinated. I knew this scene was a complicated interplay between characters and plot and word balloons and pictures, and I wanted to take the time it deserved to make it right. I knew this new character was interesting. I knew this could be a compelling scene, with valuable exposition. So I waited until the time was right. I waited two weeks, then slapped this strip together in an hour and a half.
“Good” is better than “Perfect.” Because “perfect” doesn’t get finished on time. “Perfect” doesn’t meet its deadlines. It took me two weeks to throw my hands up and copy-paste this strip together. And I’m glad. Because now the story can continue. And maybe next week will be great.
